Children of yesteryear often found themselves in the throws of anger, and did not realize the building pressure of suppressed aggression was dangerous, and could lead to regrettable behavior.  Fortunately, the good folks at Encyclopedia Britannica were there, letting the youngsters know that healthy outlets exist for their hostility, and that public, loud, obnoxious tantrums are not  socially acceptable.
