Things look a little different around here...
RiffTrax has been on the web since 2006; over these 18 years, we've done a decent job keeping pace with current technologies and advances, including doing things like "PayPal shopping carts" and "beta testing Chromecast integration."
It's in that spirit of ingenuity that we're now making great efforts to modernize our website's design, to update its look and feel into a current, modern web app. This means a fairly significant overhaul of our user experience, as you probably noticed.
Why did we do this?
Our focus is making our website and growing stable of connected apps better for our customers. The site has been entertaining RiffTrax fans for years, largely unchanged, and it’s beyond time to drag it into the modern era. Our first step is this big overhaul of the site’s appearance in order to present a more modern, enjoyable, and attractive user experience.
We’ve learned a lot building the RiffTrax apps on Roku, FireTV, iOS, and Android, and we want to bring RiffTrax.com into greater alignment with those apps. Making the website more app-like will allow us to implement features you might find in them, such as easier access to curated collections, faster searching, and more. Keep an eye out for new features that we think will make browsing and watching riffs more enjoyable.
What’s new?
We’ve overhauled the Catalog and Library pages so that you can browse and find titles you’re looking for more quickly. Try the infinite scrolling and the real-time searching and filtering today!
Dark mode! No need to wear sunglasses at night any more. If you’ve set a system or browser preference, RiffTrax.com will default to your selected mode. Want to turn the lights on or off? Just look for the light bulb up in the page header (or in the User Menu on mobile).
RiffTrax.com now works better than ever on mobile devices, with new, more accessible menus and improved page layouts.
Our developers have found ways to make this clunky ol’ jalopy faster and peppier. You should really be able to feel the speed as you click around. Be sure to strap in!
What’s next?
Over the coming weeks, we'll continue making improvements to the front-end; this will be an ongoing process, so if you notice anything amiss, don't panic — there’s a good chance we know about it already.
But if you find something VERY broken, missing, or just confusing, please let us know by submitting a Help Ticket here. And keep in mind, things will continue to improve as we tweak them based on user feedback and our own clicking around.
This refresh is the first step in a longer-term strategy to modernize riff delivery technology. We’re now in a great place to create new features and improvements that are more than skin deep, and we can’t wait to share them with you. Stay tuned for that.
Thanks for reading. We hope you enjoy the new look of RiffTrax.com, and please pardon our dust!
